How-to guide
How to use the Bluebeam Tool Chest and create custom stamps
The Tool Chest is where Revu keeps the markups you reuse, and stamps are the approval marks you put on sheets. Set both up once and most review work becomes one click.

How to create a custom approval stamp in Revu
- 1
Start a new stamp
Go to Tools > Stamp > Create Stamp.
- 2
Name it and pick a template
Enter a name in Subject, choose a template such as Text with Date and Border, set the size and colours, and select OK.
- 3
Edit the text
Double-click the text in the stamp editor and keep the words you want, such as Approved.
- 4
Add the dynamic fields
Use &[User] for the reviewer's name and &[Date] for the date; both fill in when the stamp is placed.
- 5
Save and place it
File > Save adds the stamp to your list. Place it from Tools > Markup > Stamp.
Drawing mode or Properties mode
Each Tool Chest item works in one of two modes. Drawing mode places an exact copy of the saved markup. Properties mode lets you draw a new markup that uses the saved colour, shape and size. Double-click the item's icon to switch; the icon changes to show the mode. Grouped markups and stamps always use Drawing mode.
Making and sharing tool sets
Open the Tool Chest dropdown and choose Manage Tool Sets, then Add > Add New (Add > New in Revu 20), give it a title and choose where to save it. To use a tool set someone sent you, choose Add > Add Existing (Add > Existing in Revu 20), pick the .btx file and tick Display and Show In All Profiles. In Revu 20 a relative path helps when the file sits on a shared drive.
What can't go in the Tool Chest
Notes, hyperlinks, file attachments, the text editing tools (Review Text, Underline, Squiggly line, Strikethrough and Text Highlights) and symbols that already have a Sequence or Action defined. In Revu 21, your subscription level also decides which tool sets are available to you.
Building a custom stamp
In the stamp editor, dynamic elements use the format &[element]. Choose User for the reviewer's name (it comes from General Preferences), Date and Time for when it was placed. Highlight the whole element, including the ampersand and brackets, before swapping it for another. You can change fonts and colours on the Properties tab, add a logo with Tools > Markup > Image > From File, and save with File > Save to add it to your stamps list.
Reusable markups in ContractorCounter
ContractorCounter has a Tool Chest too: Recent Tools fills itself as you work, My Tools holds the styles you pin, and built-in sets cover common review styles. Stamps are simpler than Revu's: they are placed from Search panel results to tick off items sheet by sheet, without custom dynamic text. It runs in the browser, from US$1 a week, billed US$4 every 4 weeks.
Questions about How-to guide
How do I add a markup to the Bluebeam Tool Chest?
Right-click the markup, choose Add to Tool Chest, and select the tool set. For several markups, Shift-select them, group them, then add the group.
How do I share a Bluebeam tool set with my team?
Tool sets are .btx files. Put the file somewhere your team can reach, and each person adds it with Manage Tool Sets > Add > Add Existing (Add > Existing in Revu 20), with Display and Show In All Profiles ticked.
How do I put my name and the date on a Bluebeam stamp?
Use the dynamic elements &[User] and &[Date] in the stamp editor. The user name comes from Revu's General Preferences, so set it there first.
