Common questions
How do I set the drawing scale for accurate measurements?
Use the calibration tool: pick a known dimension on the drawing (a labeled wall, a door width, or a scale bar) and enter its real length. ContractorCounter then scales every linear, area, and volume measurement on that page to match. You can recalibrate at any time if the scale changes.
What file types can I open?
PDF construction drawings plus PNG, JPG, WEBP, and HEIC images — photos of plans convert to PDF pages automatically. Multi-page PDFs get page navigation, thumbnails, and split view for comparing sheets.
Do I need to install anything?
No. ContractorCounter runs entirely in your web browser on Windows, macOS, and Chromebook. There is no desktop download, license server, or plugin to manage.
How do I export a clean copy of my markups?
Export the marked-up drawing to PDF from the workspace. Active paid plans produce clean exports; active trial users are prompted to add billing details before creating clean production exports.
Can I count repeated items across a drawing?
Yes. The count tool tags repeated items such as doors, fixtures, and fittings, and groups them so totals update as you add, split, merge, or resume counts.
How do measurements connect to a bill of quantities?
Linear, area, volume, perimeter, and count markups link to a Bill of Quantities. Editing the geometry on the drawing updates the linked quantity live, so your takeoff stays in sync with the markup.
What happens when my free trial ends?
Your work is kept — nothing is deleted. The workspace becomes view-only until you subscribe to a plan, at which point editing, exports, BoQ, and AI chat resume exactly where you left off.
How do I report a bug or request a feature?
Use the form below and choose 'Bug Report' or 'Feature Request' as the type. Signed-in users can track the ticket's status inside the app.
How is my drawing data handled?
Your drawings and project data stay in your private workspace and are not shared with other users.
