Markup tools

Callouts, Revision Clouds, and Freehand Pen

These three tools cover most review communication: a callout ties a note to an exact detail, a revision cloud flags a changed region the way drafting standards expect, and the pen draws freehand for anything irregular.

Callout leaders, scalloped revision clouds, and freehand pen strokes all export with the drawing.

Place a callout

  1. 1

    Choose Callout

Select Callout from the markup toolbar.

  2. 2

    Set the leader and note

Click the detail the arrow should point at, then position the text box and type the note.

  3. 3

    Style it

Font, arrow, line, and fill controls are in the Properties panel, the same as text and line markups.

Cloud a revision

  1. 1

    Choose Revision Cloud

Select Revision Cloud from the toolbar or press C.

  2. 2

    Drag around the changed area

The scalloped border draws automatically. Keep the cloud tight to the change so reviewers see exactly what moved.

Sketch freehand

Choose Pen (D) and draw directly on the page for anything the shape tools do not fit — site access routes, rough zones, or handwriting-style notes. Pen strokes are normal markups: they can be selected, styled, locked, and deleted.
