Using Line and Arrow Tools

Lines and arrows are general markup objects. Use measurement tools instead when the line needs to calculate a real-world quantity.

Draw a line or arrow

Choose Line or Arrow
Select Line (L) for a plain segment or Arrow for a directional callout.

Drag between points
Click and drag from the start point to the end point on the drawing.

Adjust placement
Select the markup to move endpoints or reposition the whole object.

Change appearance
Adjust colour, opacity, line weight, and style (solid, dashed, dotted, or dash-dot).

Use consistent colours
Reserve common colours for common meanings, such as red for review issues or green for completed items.

Pick each end
With a line, arrow, polyline, or perimeter selected, open Ends on the toolbar (or the Start and End fields in Properties) and choose none, closed arrow, open arrow, tick, dot, circle, square, or diamond for each end.

Size the ends
End size scales both ends from 25% to 400% of their normal size.

Use the right-click menu
Right-click a line for Line Start, Line End, and Swap Line Ends. With several lines selected, the change applies to all of them in one undo step.

Set ends before drawing
Choose ends with the Line, Arrow, or Polyline tool active and new lines are drawn with them.
