Drawing Rectangles and Ellipses

Rectangle and ellipse markups are useful for highlighting defects, revisions, scope zones, alternates, and areas that need follow-up.

Draw the shape

Choose Rectangle or Ellipse
Pick Rectangle (R) or Ellipse from the toolbar.

Drag over the area
Drag from one corner of the target area to the opposite corner. An ellipse fills the box you drag. Hold Shift to draw a square or a circle.

Resize after placing
Use Select mode and drag handles to adjust the box or ellipse.

Set fill opacity
Use a transparent fill when the drawing content must remain visible below the shape.

Use stroke weight or hatch
Increase the line weight for callouts that need to stand out, or apply a hatch pattern (diagonal, cross, horizontal, or vertical) to distinguish overlapping zones.

Right-click the shape
Right-click a rectangle, ellipse, or polygon and choose Mark Centre.

Choose what to mark
Centre Point places a small cross at the centre. Horizontal Centreline, Vertical Centreline, or Both Centrelines draw dash-dot lines through the centre that run a little past the outline.

Rotated shapes and polygons
Centrelines follow a rotated shape's own axes, and a polygon is marked at its centre of area.

Edit them like any line
Centre marks are ordinary markups in the shape's colour. They don't move with the shape, so mark the centre again after moving it. One undo removes everything a single Mark Centre added.
