Bill of quantities
Organising Bill of Quantities Rows
A bill grows quickly once measurements start linking into it. Headings turn one long list into labelled areas such as Ground Floor or External Works, and rows can be dragged between them. Everything sits in a single ordered list, so what you see on screen is the order that exports.

Headings split the bill into areas; items belong to the heading above them.
Add a heading
- 1
Open the Bill of Quantities pane
Show it from the workspace layout presets if it is hidden. Three Panel and BoQ Focus both include it.
- 2
Add a heading row
Add a row and choose the heading type. Give it the area or trade name you want on the issued document.
- 3
Understand what it captures
An item belongs to the nearest heading above it. Adding a heading part-way down the bill splits everything below it into the new area until the next heading.
The Unassigned section
Rows added before you create any heading sit in a pinned Unassigned section at the top of the bill. It is not a mistake, just the block that has no heading above it yet. Drag rows out of it once your headings exist, or add a heading above them.
Reorder rows
- 1
Drag an item
Drag a row to a new position, either within its area or onto another heading to move it there.
- 2
Drag a heading
Dragging a heading moves the whole block: the heading and every item under it travel together, so an area keeps its contents.
- 3
Check the order
The on-screen order is the export order. Confirm the bill reads the way you want before exporting a BoQ PDF or spreadsheet.
Keep quantities linked
Reordering and regrouping never breaks the link between a row and the markup it came from. A row moved into a different area still updates when you edit the measurement on the drawing.
