Using Grid and Snapping

Grid and snapping controls help align markups, measurements, and repeated annotations. They are especially useful when placing many objects on a structured plan.

Grid visibility and the snap modes live in the View menu and toolbar grid controls.

Turn on grid support

  1. 1

    Show the grid

Choose View > Show Grid or press Shift+F9 to display the construction grid.

  2. 2

    Choose snapping modes

Enable Snap to Grid (Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+F9), Snap to Page Center (Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+F8), or Snap to Markup (Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+F7) depending on what you are placing.

  3. 3

    Tune the grid appearance

Use the toolbar grid controls to adjust spacing (automatic or a fixed value), line style, and whether the grid hides while you are drawing.

Test before bulk work

Place a small markup and confirm the snap behaviour matches the work before marking up many items — snapping that helps on a structured plan can fight you on an irregular detail sheet.
