Formwork comes off the perimeter of the same polygon, and rebar runs measure linearly on the calibrated sheet, so the pour, the forms, and the steel all trace back to one drawing.

A worked example, with the math shown
The math the page runs for you: a measured 148 m² slab at 150 mm thick is 148 × 0.15 = 22.2 m³ of concrete; bump the pour to 200 mm and the same polygon reads 29.6 m³ — no re-measuring, because volume is area-driven. In imperial, a 1,600 sq ft slab at 6 in is 1,600 × 0.5 ÷ 27 = 29.6 cu yd. Add the supplier's waste allowance (typically 5–10%) on the BoQ line, and the formwork edge comes off the same polygon's perimeter, so one shape prices the pour and the forms.
