Contract Review Troubleshooting

Most review problems come down to the PDF itself — whether it has selectable text and how large it is. Work through the matching symptom below; if none fits, contact support through contractorcounter.com/support with the file name and roughly when you tried.

Selectable text is the key requirement — scans and photos of contracts can't be reviewed yet.

"Scanned" or photographed contracts don't work

The reviewer needs a PDF with selectable text — that is what nearly every contract sent by email has. Scans and photos are images without a text layer, and OCR support is on the roadmap but not available yet. Quick test: open the PDF and try to select a sentence with your cursor. If you can't, ask the sender for the original PDF.

"This contract is beyond our review limit"

Large contracts are supported — documents running to hundreds of pages are reviewed automatically in sections and can take a few minutes. Only extreme documents (roughly 1,200+ pages of dense contract text) exceed the limit. If you hit it, split the PDF — review the conditions of contract separately from bulky schedules, specifications, and appendices. The contract terms are where the risk lives; drawings and schedules rarely need clause review.

"Daily review limit reached"

Reviews run before payment, so a fair-use limit of 6 review runs per day per network connection applies. The limit resets daily. If your crew shares one office connection, spreading review runs across the day avoids hitting it.

The review is taking a long time

A typical review takes 30–90 seconds. Very long contracts are reviewed in sections and can take a few minutes, and a slow AI model response adds time before the system switches to a backup model. Leave the tab open — progress messages keep updating. If it fails, an error shows in the workspace and nothing is charged.

A finding isn't highlighted on the page

Findings marked "not pinned to text" are valid but couldn't be matched to the exact page position (unusual PDF text encoding). Use the page number and quoted text on the finding card to locate the clause manually.
